In response to Rev Jules Gomes: Welby has more to worry about than the Church’s treatment of gays, Don Benson wrote:
Well, Rev Jules, you’ve hit the nail on the head with this piece regarding Justin Welby. It’s a crying shame that a gifted, energetic and likeable Archbishop ends up a tormented figure who may well go down in history as the one who presided over the destruction of his own church. How has this happened?
It seems that somewhere along the line Justin has fallen hook, line and sinker for the cultural Marxist LGBT agenda of ‘equalities’. And it is an agenda which is utterly opposed to Christianity but, like the very first temptation, uses half-truths to bamboozle well-meaning people within the faith. Evidence?
In 2012, when interviewed following his appointment as Archbishop, he said: ‘I know I need to listen very attentively to the LGBT communities, and examine my own thinking prayerfully and carefully.’ They had already got to him at that point. Despite the unequivocal teaching of the Bible and his own church, he would decide for himself how he viewed homosexuality and, presumably, would be prepared to undermine the position of his own church on the issue. I would suggest that, far from the feelings of inadequacy which he claims, he was already revealing the kind of hubris that can only lead to disaster.
