In response to Victoria: A TCW reader writes: I’m ashamed I ever voted Tory, James Chilton wrote:
Victoria’s commentary hits lots of nails on the head, speaks for many people, and provides reasons for our despair.
While the fiasco of the Brexit deal is a consequence of Mrs May’s incompetence and folly, at a deeper level it is also a consequence of the mindset shared by the entire ruling caste. They ‘know best’ and they are all to blame for our predicament.
Parliament merely rubber-stamps many political decisions which have already emerged from the sanctimonious chatter of lefty- liberals in academia, politics, the media, the law, and the church. Their social networking is the informal and secret context in which the national interest is often decided.
Elections make no difference to the informal connections of politicians. We can chuck them out of Parliament but they continue to exercise their influence behind the scenes and beyond the control of the electorate.
