Having asked those questions I should add that I agree with Colonel Mustard [another TCW commenter] that British involvement, notwithstanding our later efforts to abolish the slave trade not only in the British Empire but elsewhere too, is an appalling stain on this country’s history. It is right, however, that the hypocrisy of those who blame only Europeans and North Americans should be challenged.
