In response to: Andrew Cadman: Is this the liberals’ Armageddon?
When you say ‘liberals’ you really mean the ‘progressives’. In Britain’s case, these progressives have been cruising for a bruising for some decades. It will be ironic if one of their number, Boris Johnson, is the agent of their destruction. I may have to lie down from excess schadenfreude.
No better illustration of its quasi-religious fervour is the recent grotesque spectacle of rich international figures flying to a conference on global warming in private jets, using carbon offsets rather in the same way that the rich once bought papal indulgences for the forgiveness of sin.
Love this analogy.
I loved this article – it reflected my own thoughts precisely, as I struggled this morning to comprehend the intellectual dishonesty, mediocrity, nay, the hypocrisy or insanity of our ‘establishment’. The insane comments over the brief prorogation, and so forth. I used to think it was an ‘EU-brain disease’ but these days I know much more about the wider, more sinister context. Thanks for the article, though I think it is a trifle optimistic in its conclusion!
It’s been said elsewhere this is a battle between the ‘anywhere’ western liberals and the ‘somewheres’ who have roots in society. You only had to look at the remainer demos in London with their blue flags to see they feel nothing but contempt for a sovereign UK.
