Readers’ comments: RIP, Sir Roger

In response to The Conservative Woman: Death of Sir Roger Scruton, greatest moral guide of our time,

Paulski wrote:

Sir Roger opened my eyes to conservative philosophy and the gentle yet persuasive power of his arguments said in his wonderful voice was a treat to behold.

He also coined the simple yet extensive definition of conservatism that ‘conservatives are people who love something actual and want to retain it.’

I can think of no greater modern influence for those who love one’s country and customs. He was a towering intellect, a gentleman and his passing is a sad day.

LordOfMisrule wrote:

I hope the so-called Conservatives who treated him so badly last year are feeling a deep sense of shame this morning. I doubt it, unfortunately.

Starshiptrooper wrote:

So sad to hear this news. He felt like a kindred spirit.
I had hoped you’d live to 100, Sir Roger, as your country needed you.
Enjoy your eternal reward.
