Yesterday’s ‘The toppling of Theresa: Day 50’ by The Conservative Woman had barely hit the screen before Mrs May tearfully announced that she was planning to step down as Prime Minister on June 7.

Many of our readers hung out the flags. Others did not take Mrs May’s declaration at face value. Here is a selection of the torrent of comments we received:

50 up!! And she has gone. Not before time, all that drivel at the end of her announcement, I thought I was listening to a Liberal Democrat. Well the other good news at least she won’t be writing her memoirs, she has achieved nothing in her tenure as Prime Minister.

She hasn’t gone, she has said she will go and given a date. Until she has gone, she hasn’t gone and not only do I believe she is capable of attempting a ‘Downfall’ scorched earth policy, she now has time to do put it into practice.

I guess ‘immediately’ is another word, like ‘leave’, that isn’t in the Tory dictionary.

Keep counting, just in case.

Robin Horbury wrote:

As the day has gone on, the more dangerous these so-called exit arrangements seem. She is in situ for long enough to do massive damage, and given the carnage she has already caused, that is a very disturbing thought.

I was reading the article with interest until I read this – ‘even of the stature of Jesse Norman’.

Took me ages to stop laughing.

The PrangWizard of England wrote:

We must not breathe a sigh of relief and then let our guard down. She’s still there, still the same duplicitous person. What kind of plot will she hatch now, in revenge? She must not be allowed to take any decisions on her own. She must hand over the car keys.

It wouldn’t surprise me if she still tries to sign us up to more EU. She deserves no sympathy, no consideration. We must never forget she was planning our subjugation.

TM says ‘I have failed the country I loved’ – would that be Germany then, in not getting their WA passed?

SiberianRhod wrote:

So she is finally going, not with dignity but with crocodile tears and bare-faced lies. She did everything she could to stop and completely neuter the Brexit result and deliver the UK as a vassal of the EU.
If whoever succeeds her tries to go along anything other than a WTO exit, given the intransigence of the EU they and the Tory and Labour Party will be destroyed.

The EU does not negotiate and only backs down in the face of superior power, Russia has faced them down many times and won.
No more ‘good faith’ as they have none.

I wonder who the EU will choose as their next useful idiot, er, leader.

AllyM wrote:

She still won’t admit she did anything wrong with her Brexit mess. She says that she loves this country. Well, how does refusing to deliver what was promised and denying the clear will of the majority make that love appear? Why are her own against her? The best that can be said about her is that she is deluded, but, then, she CHOSE to be deluded by not dealing honestly, not facing reality. What an awful prime minister she has been. I feel no sympathy for her.

The one thing that sticks in my mind is the absolute dishonesty and continuous lying that she was delivering Brexit when she was doing nothing of the sort and had caved in to the remain squad and the EU to such an extent that the deal itself was far worse than the one we had originally. To lie to the country is bad to continually lie and attempt to destroy the biggest democratic mandate in our history is and was unforgivable. Do I feel sorry for her? No way – if her plan had succeeded we would, as Rees-Mogg and others have said, have wound up as a vassal state in a new German empire, 50billion poorer and allowing the EU the ability to annexe N Ireland.

Wilbur replied:

Even more concerning were the Tories (MPs, Lords, officials, local association) who supported her and egged her on through the blatant betrayal, for their own benefit.

The party is a poisoned cesspit and she is only the detritus that floated to the top.

Fred Smith wrote:

I burst out laughing when she started blubbering. She’s done nothing to excite sympathy, quite the opposite with her lies and deception.

I wish Laura and Kathy could take over. Far better than any of the people who will.
