Their refusal to fight on the soil of true conservatism, but instead always retreating leftwards, has encouraged the rise of ever more leftwards opposition parties. Moreover when their failure to extricate the nation from that all-time historic mistake, joining what became the EU, gave rise in frustration to patriotic, gently right-of-centre parties like Ukip and then TBP, what did they do ? They snubbed them and attacked them!
Like the leaders of that other formerly useful institution, the Church of England, the grandees of the Conservative Party have lost all belief in what should be their core beliefs, conservatism, as expressed through liberty, enterprise, individual responsibility, families, Burke’s ‘small battalions’, nation state, commonwealth and Christianity.

There are enough people still alive who remember what a Left-wing Labour government did to this country but their numbers are dwindling. I can only hope the youth grow out of it as they get jobs and mortgages and have children, but I am not optimistic.
