In response to Laura Perrins: The Golden Globes and a demonic celebration of abortion

I remember the clapping and cheering in (I think) the NY Senate
when it recently approved a marked liberalisation of abortion laws. It is one thing to conclude – as some do – that abortion is a sad but necessary evil. It is another entirely to cheer the murder of babies.

There are clearly lots of different and passionate views held on this very emotive subject. Without wishing to share mine, I do question the actress’s decision to share her past actions so publicly. She might think it was justified to terminate a pregnancy but, as Laura Perrins writes, why elevate the act to something virtuous and worth sharing in front of TV cameras?

Laura is going ever more off the deep end that I can hardly recognise her from those she criticises.
In the US there is still the possibility of some bible-bashing fool coming to power and taking away a woman’s right to choose what she does with her life. If someone feels they are threatened, then they should speak out.
The fact is that the Left will always attack the Conservative Christian fundamentalists on the landing ground of abortion, drugs and pornography. They rarely hold to any principle, they just know it winds the Christian Right up.
The reaction is ever predictable by the dogmatic Right, who are exposed as being the authoritarians compared to the ‘butter wouldn’t melt in their mouths’ Lefties. If Conservatives stopped digging this particularly silly hole for themselves and started supporting individual rights from principle, then this pathetic squabbling might end.
