(This 60-second sermon was broadcast on BBC Radio Sheffield on Sunday August 7th)

Two hymns to compare and contrast this morning:

Amazing Self – how sweet the sound

That launched a star like me!

With my potential I have found

My real identity

And the alternative:

Amazing Grace – how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

There is, of course, all the difference in the universe between those two hymns. The first is for the person who worships the god of the self – they worship themselves; the second is for the person who worships the true God, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, the only way to eternal salvation.

Which kind of worshipper will we choose to be this morning?
