Scourge of the woke Ron DeSantis wins big

You remember Governor Ron DeSantis, right? He is the hero – and I don’t use that term lightly – who not only stood against the Covid tyranny and refused to lock down Florida, but he is also fully armed and loaded when it comes to fighting the culture war.

DeSantis has stopped the attack on the bodies of children and outlawed medications and surgeries that ruin the lives of minors in the name of ‘transgenderism’. This greatly upset the New York Times, so you know he is doing it right. ‘The state’s medical board, whose members are appointed by the governor, has barred doctors from prescribing gender care to new adolescent patients.’

Well, in an otherwise poor night for the Republicans, when the red wave that was predicted did not materialise, Ron DeSantis won big to stay in office. Even the Guardian described it as a ‘landslide victory’.

‘In a landslide victory, with more than 95 per cent of votes in, DeSantis won 59.4 per cent of the vote with 4,607,597. Meanwhile, the Democratic candidate, Charlie Crist, won just 40 per cent of the vote with 3,100,603.’

In a barn-storming speech after his victory, DeSantis talked about rejecting the lockdown, saying: ‘Florida was a refuge of sanity when the world went mad. We stood as the citadel of freedom for people across this country and indeed, across the world. We faced attacks, we took the hits, we weathered the storms but we stood our ground.

‘We did not back down. We had the conviction to guide us and we had the courage to lead. We made promises. We made promises to the people of Florida and we have delivered on those promises. And so today, after four years, the people have delivered their verdict.’

He continued his war on woke: ‘We fight the woke in the legislature. We fight the woke in the schools, we fight the woke in the corporations. We will never ever surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die.’

This result will increase calls for him to seek the Republican nomination to run for the presidency in 2024.
