Sign this Ofcom petition, then switch off your TV

YES, the wording may sound a bit weak and you may say it is bound to be ignored, but we should all sign this petition asking for a public inquiry into ‘Ofcom’s guidance on broadcast standards during the pandemic’.

It is very important.  What we already know is that Ofcom’s recent interference with GB News, resulting in making Mark Steyn’s position there untenable and the alleged entry of Ofcom re-education officials in the building warning staff what can and cannot be asserted about the greatest scandal of our times – the Covid Vaccine scandal – is novel. No such equivalent oversight or censorship about what’s been genuine and persistent covid misinformation and propaganda broadcast by ITV, SKY and the BBC, over the last two years, has been brought to bear.  If you want to hear this debated, listen to the brilliant James Delingpole taking on Toby Young on the topic on this week’s London Calling.

Where for example was OfCom when the main broadcasters went fully and totally uncritically on board with promoting the government’s unprecedented and unjustifiable campaign of fear; when they continued to pump out misinformation and selective and unchecked ‘official’ data and claims, while parroting the government’s tragically misleading ‘safe and effective’ mantra, despite plenty of contrary evidence in the public domain? Where was it when these same broadcasters did not even pause to critically assess government claims let alone investigate them? Where was it when the broadcasters refused to give any airtime at all to expert representations of concern? Not least regarding repeated inflated Covid death projections, falsely attributed death from Covid figures and insistent vaccine safety assurances for pregnant women. Impartial, the BBC, SKY and ITV were not. Sceptical, they were not. Government propagandists, they were.

And what was the ‘regulator’ doing betimes? Acting as an independent regulator upholding the best standards of journalism or monitoring the broadcasters’ duty of impartiality? Far from it. Rather it set itself up as state policeman to ‘combat Covid misinformation’ in a manner worthy of the Chinese Communist Party or the Soviet State. Check their website. That remains its prior concern.

Could this petition have any impact on that?  While I am not holding my breath it does depend on you; on how much support it attracts. Neither Ofcom nor the BBC gives a stuff about what the public thinks, we know, but we still have to try to make that change. Like refusing to pay the licence fee, this is one of the few ways of registering ‘no consent’.

So do sign here.

If no broadcaster boss is bold enough to defy Ofcom then we have to ask, what is the point of watching anymore? Perhaps we should let them know that until they stop playing the Ofcom bully boy self-censoring game and wake up then we’ll be switching off anyway. How long can they last without an audience?
