According to this story on the BBC News website, the authors of a report ‘said income inequality was the biggest factor’ in the life expectancy gap between rich and poor.
The executive summary of the report itself says this: ‘Our analysis shows that income deprivation, as estimated from state benefits and largely associated with unemployment, is the strongest independent predictor of mortality rates in a neighbourhood.’
