TCW, a beacon of light in the gloom

-

IT’S been a pretty horrible year, hasn’t it? Since Covid arrived on our shores at the beginning of the year, we’ve seen our government and media ramp up fear to a whole new level. Not content with spreading that fear, the government brought in a raft of policies guaranteed to kill off the economy, make millions jobless and increase mental illness to an all-time high. We’ve seen the rise of BLM and the cancel culture. We’ve seen a police state which has bowed down to certain groups while arresting and fining decent citizens. We’ve seen a compliant nation clapping like seals for a flawed organisation raised to a deity and a whole new level of paranoia and division created by the informer culture.

The government have been pretty useless throughout. We’ve watched them wrangle with the EU to try to get a deal that has taken them nearly five years to sort out, and the ineffectual opposition haven’t lifted a finger in protest.

We’ve watched Republicans fight back in America as the election which seemingly made Joe Biden President-elect has been fraught with allegations of mass voting fraud.

Tumultuous doesn’t cover it, yet despite everything there have been reasons to cheer this year. Mainly because there has been a pushback against much of what we have seen, read and heard. For one, we have seen the Free Speech Union, created by Toby Young, rise to combat the cancel culture and aid those who have been shunted from their jobs by stating wrongthink. We have witnessed the birth of David Kurten’s Heritage Party, a traditional conservative movement, and Laurence Fox’s Reclaim Party, whose aims are to reclaim what the cancel culture is censoring. Another reason, for me anyway, is that it has helped to read the countless articles on this site which have offered a counter-narrative to the lunacy we’ve lived through.

The Conservative Woman has offered us readers some sanity throughout this period of darkness. The team has expanded to include a host of new writers, from different backgrounds with a range of experience, who have found a place to expose truth or hypocrisy or even howl at the moon, like myself: I do like a good rant.

I also enjoy the banter below the line. TCW has created a family and every year and through each story, we learn more about each other and the world around us.

On that note, I wish everyone at The Conservative Woman (writers and commenters) a merry Christmas and pray for a better new year than the one we’ve had. Whether 2021 treats us better or worse, TCW will continue to be a beacon of light for many of us.

Our editors are unpaid and work entirely voluntarily as do the majority of our contributors but there are inevitable costs associated with running a website. We depend on our readers to help us, either with regular or one-off payments. You can donate here. Thank you.
