Last MP: Ian Lucas (Labour)
Beth Vaughan writes: I live in the constituency of Wrexham, recently in the news due to a poll putting the Conservatives party on 44 per cent and Labour on 29 per cent. https://www.economist.com/britain/2019/12/05/the-tories-are-well-ahead-in-wrexham-part-of-labours-red-wall Wrexham has been Labour since it became a constituency in the 1930s.
The long-term Labour MP Ian Lucas is standing down, leaving the field open. The Tory candidate Sarah Atherton is a local woman, previously a nurse then a social worker. She is one of the blue-collar Tories who are returning the Conservatives to a party of aspirational workers. She is pro-Brexit, economically conservative and socially responsible.
The Labour candidate Mary Wimbury is, it seems, very Left. Full of Labour mythology about the NHS and deeply unionised. Despite candidates from Plaid Cymru, LibDem and Brexit Party standing, this is a straight fight between Labour and Conservative. Whilst I am cautious about the Economist‘s poll on Wrexham, this is a Leave area with a vocal Remainer Labour candidate.
I will be voting for Sarah Atherton: not only do I think she will be an excellent MP but we have to ensure the Jew-hating Marxists don’t take power. We have to ensure democracy is upheld in the UK by honouring the referendum, and we have to protect the British economy from the economic illiteracy of the Labour Party.
