Reader’s Comment of the Week
In response to Cerberus: Obama faces a rough ride over Brexit from the sceptical British press, RC wrote:
The scene: an office in New England, circa 1776
Adams: “How’s that Declaration of Independence coming along?”
Jefferson: “Nearly finished”
Adams: “Actually, I was going to tell you to forget it. Apparently, the Tsar of Russia has said that we should stay in the British empire. He thinks that we won’t be able to function, economically, if we leave and is also afraid that, if our 13 colonies become independent, he won’t know what address to write to. So that’s that. Tell George to stand down.”
TCW Hero of the Week
Her Majesty The Queen turned 90 this week and reminded us how fortunate we are to have a conservative woman at the helm.
While Westminster was filled with clamouring suits scouring their Thesaurus and heaping praise on Her Majesty, including a masterpiece in ‘how to speak through gritted teeth’ by Jeremy Corbyn, our monarch rose above them all as she graced the streets of Windsor in a rather lovely hat.
Their comments will soon fade into insignificance against the continued strength with which Her Majesty serves us all.
TCW Villain of the Week
US President Barack Obama used his leverage as Leader of the Free World to come over to the UK and tell us to spurn our once-in-a-generation chance to embrace the freedom of Brexit.
Mr President encouraged us to be “proud” of the British values incorporated into the EU – well, the notion of parliamentary democracy clearly isn’t one of those. The EU, Obama says, “doesn’t moderate British influence – it magnifies it”. Obviously, that’s why on each of the 72 occasions that Britain has voted against measures in the European Council, we have been defeated 72 times. There’s ‘influence’ for you!
The message we should send to Mr Obama is ‘thanks, but no thanks’ – we won’t continue to surrender to a bureaucratic Brussels-based regime until Washington is overruled by a Supreme Court based in Canada and has to endure unlimited free movement from Mexico.
