Reader’s Comment of the Week
In response to Laura Perrins: Queen Harriet betrays her feminist creed, Guardian’s Quitter wrote:
“Harriet Harman is odious. The face of the modern Labour Party, alongside that of blatant racists like Diane Abbott, or utter snobs like Emily Thornberry, they have as much respect for working people as they do for an over-flowing waste bin. I despise them.”
TCW Hero of the Week
Tory MP Mark Harper was top of the class of reformed Remainers this week as the Article 50 Bill was voted through by the Commons. As David Cameron’s Chief Whip, Harper could have followed the Anna Soubry method of whining from the sidelines and flailing your arms about anything to do with Brexit. But no, he delivered some enthusiastically excellent Commons speeches, and annoyed the SNP to boot, arguing that “the public expect us to get cracking and get the negotiation underway”. We do indeed, now it’s up to the Lords to take heed of democracy and wave it through. Or be abolished.
TCW Villain of the Week
Commons Speaker John Bercow was like a sow in muck this week as he wallowed in front page after front page of attention after his single-handed intervention to sabotage the Special Relationship by banning President Trump from Parliament. The pint-sized Pol Pot, unconcerned by his previous hosting of illiberal regimes from Kuwait to China, virtue signalled to his heart’s content just to please the anti-Tory crowds rather than sticking to the impartiality that his ancient office requires. The sooner the odious little man is gone, the better.
