Readers’ Comment of the week

In response to Laura Perrins: Sex scandal? No, an attempted coup, ScaryBiscuits wrote:

This is the list of nominally Conservative ladies who have attacked the government during this crisis or poured fuel on the flames:

Andrea Leadsom: Transparently used the opportunity to take revenge on Michael Fallon;

Amber Rudd: Called for a clean-out, again clearly to get a reshuffle for her own advantage;

Heidi Allen: Taking revenge on Damian Green for his ‘Is she a Conservative?’ joke (which coming from somebody as Left-wing as Green says something);

Anna Soubry: Her love of Europe is clearly outweighed by her hatred of Theresa May and anybody close to her, particularly fellow die-hard Remainer Damian Green;

Kate Maltby (referred to as a Conservative activist in the press but really just another progressive journalist) who apparently victimised Green, using him for gossip whilst pretending to be interested in his sexual advances, at least according to her own account;

Theresa May, who kicked the whole witch-hunt off with her criticism of Jared O’Mara from the Dispatch Box.

Fortunately, there’s a longer list of Conservative women with some common sense, but you won’t have heard from them recently.

TCW Hero of the Week

The Donald it is, for withstanding one year of media onslaught. That’s apart from the USA’s thriving economy – markets stronger, consumers and business more confident; and apart from an American President who stands up for his own country. Deranged Trump syndrome applies to his critics, not to him. Take a look at some of the assessments of his first year in office. Bizarre is too mild to describe them; start with deranged and work downward. It’s the people who publish this stuff who are in need of counselling, not the tenacious President Trump.

TCW Villain of the Week

There are just too many to choose from a week punctuated by tragedy. Please see above to the Readers’ comment pick for starters. It will go down as the week when the MeToo witch-hunt turned very sour. We can only hope this will lead to serious reflection and prove a watershed moment.
