Reader’s Comment of the Week
In response to Laura Perrins fights for Nelson against the Left, sfin wrote:
“An excellent defence m’learned friend!
“You could also have said – ‘OK, let’s tear down the statue of Karl Marx in Highgate cemetery’. After all, in terms of the subsequent body count, he did have the single worst idea in human history.”
TCW Hero of the Week
Laura Perrins took to the airwaves in protest this week, (metaphorically) chaining herself to Nelson’s Column in order to save him from the latest onslaught of the Left. Our doughty co-editor expressed the feeling of national fury and outrage at Afua Hirsch’s suggestion that the statue of a national hero should be torn down. He not only gave his life for this country, said Laura, but secured a naval victory that was critical in bringing about the end of the slave trade. The very idea that we should go round tearing down national monuments reveals the Left as the nasty bullies they are.
TCW Villain of the Week
Afua Hirsch’s article for the Guardian, where else, entitled ‘Toppling statues? Here’s why Nelson’s column should be next’ was accompanied by a sickening depiction of the naval hero’s statue in Trafalgar Square being pulled down. It was an appalling article that sullied the name of journalism and should never have passed any self-respecting publication’s editorial bar. Hirsch’s horrid scribblings and the Guardian’s desperate headline is just the latest example of muddled socialist thinking.
