YESTERDAY Karen wrote in TCW about three openly anti-Semitic Democrat politicians, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, now sitting in the US Congress. Today she explains they are the product of the West’s embrace of cultural Marxism which it appears leaves the party leadership powerless to deal with them.
The West’s greatest strengths are its weakness too. Our qualities of tolerance and freedom make us vulnerable to exploitation by our enemies.
Far too many in West have fallen for the myth that all cultures are created equal. They are not. Detrimental policies of multi-culturalism and accusations of guilt have made most Westerners ashamed of their own culture and history. Consequently our Judeo-Christian ethos and culture are receding and at risk of being dominated by an unholy combination of Islamism and socialism. Both totalitarian ideologies are riddled with hatred, injustice, victimhood and racism and with colonial ambitions of their own. Putrid anti-Semitism is their calling card.
Both ideologies have been championed by Labour in the UK and the Democrats in the US. Both leaderships are unable, or unwilling, to deal with the disastrous consequences of flirting with such tyranny. Their navel-gazing and sense of superiority has blinded them to the dangers of socialism and Islamism. Following the election of Representatives Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez into Congress, the Democrats are suffering from a bad bout of cognitive dissonance.
The education system, both in the US and UK, is also to blame. Educational institutions have been influenced by cultural Marxists and so the horrors of socialism, some still in living memory, have been sanitised into an imaginary movement of justice and fairness. Ocasio-Cortez is a product of this education and so are her supporters.
The Left have convinced themselves, and others, that they are moral arbiters, emblematic of goodness and purity. They have achieved this because they shout the loudest and make ample use of the biggest weapon in their arsenal – accusations of racism. Paradoxically, those on the Left who proclaim anti-racist credentials are among the worst perpetrators of anti-Semitism.
Humans need to create heroes and villains. These beings are worshipped or feared, and we can project our aspirations and excuses on to them. Our ancestors created religion, with gods and devils, for the same reasons. We construct a hero/god and a villain/devil archetype in opposition to each other and that helps us recognise which is which. And because the Left dominate political, social and educational institutions in the UK and US, they have captured the narrative of what is good and what is bad. They have constructed a set of binary options – those who disagree with them are accused of racism or the latest trendy ‘phobia’.
‘Israelis bad, Palestinians good’ and ‘Right bad, Left good’ are their current prevailing discourse. Anti-Semitism has emanated from the Left for decades. The KGB collaborated with Yasser Arafat in the 1960s to create the Palestinian Liberation Organisation as a means to attack the US, and its ally Israel. This propelled the Western Left into their hatred of the Jewish state and consequently exacerbated their latent anti-Semitism.
Like Labour, the Democrats have fallen for the Islamist propaganda that Palestinians are the victims and Israelis the aggressors, where the opposite is true. Israel is a sanctuary not only for half the world’s Jews but for other minorities too. The false belief that anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism has been encouraged and allowed to proliferate in political discourse on the Left.
Instead of unity, division is sown. Those who inflame anti-Semitism, as Omar and Tlaib have done, are rebuked weakly with frail words from the Democrat leadership and allowed to carry on unabated. Most Democrats are paralysed by their immersion in the Left-wing narrative of good and bad. The fear of being accused of racism is a far more powerful fear than any accusations of anti-Semitism.
Like most on the Left, Democrats cannot accept that those they purported to protect from racism have turned out to be racist themselves. And so, spurred on by most of the mainstream media who never forgave the ‘deplorables’ for electing Donald Trump instead of their political heroine Hillary Clinton, the Democrats have constructed a worldview in which Trump is the devil and the terrible trio are goddesses. Compounded by the weakest form of whataboutery, where any accusation that these three women are anti-Semitic is deflected with cries about Trump’s so-called anti-Semitism, the Democrats are sinking further into a messy quagmire.
The Democrats were quick to castigate Trump wrongly in the wake of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting last year, yet remain silent about Omar and Tlaib’s anti-Semitism. Unlike like the terrible trio who support the violent and intimidatory Islamist Boycott Disinvest Sanctions (BDS) campaign to eradicate Israel, Trump has never threatened the Jewish state with destruction. He has also torn up the detestable Iran deal, created by his predecessor, which gave the regime millions towards achieving nuclear power and their goal of destroying Israel.
Trump appointed the indomitable Nikki Haley as ambassador to the Islamist-dominated UN and acknowledged that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital. His new envoy on anti-Semitism, Elan Carr, has vowed to end the false notion that anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism.
And it was the Democrats, and not the Republicans, who recently tried to stop a pro-Israel Bill, outlawing BDS, from passing in Congress. Republican Mario Rubio sponsored the Bill which was vehemently fought against by a large gaggle of Democrats under the laughable pretext of ‘free speech’. And true to form the terrible trio sought to block the Bill with Tlaib accusing Jewish Senators of ‘dual loyalty’, a trope made even more bizarre from someone who declares herself Palestinian at every given opportunity.
Consumed with irrational hatred of Trump and desperate to promote anyone who isn’t ‘pale, male and stale’ within their party the Democrats are on the trajectory to becoming a cult. Their hubris and obliviousness to the anti-Semitism emanating from the terrible trio shows that they are unable to confront the horrible reality of who they have aligned themselves with.
The terrible trio won’t be happy until the US resembles a totalitarian state, with socialists and Islamists jostling for power over the masses. If Ocasio-Cortez, Omar and Tlaib are not immediately expelled from Congress their influence will grow and the US may soon resemble the badlands of Somalia, from which Omar once fled.
