That’s enough emissions from you, Selwyn

-

Lord Deben, chairman of the Committee on Climate Change, says the target date to phase out petrol and diesel cars scheduled for 2040 should be brought forward to 2030 since it is ‘not ambitious enough’.

There are 37.5million vehicles in the UK, and 1.28billion in the world, so what does he intend to do about the rest of the world’s 1242.5million polluting vehicles which represent 97 per cent of the total?

He must reside in Cloud Cuckoo Land, where absurdity, fantasy and unrealistic pronouncements prevail.

And to think the former John Selwyn Gummer, who once tried to prove beef was safe to eat by encouraging his four-year-old daughter to munch a burger – she refused – is being handsomely paid by us to make such ignorant and nonsensical utterances.

The whole emissions reduction exercise is a colossal waste of money and resources as the rest of the world will continue to drive petrol and diesel cars and burn fossil fuels. Time, surely, for the good lord to call a halt to his own fatuous emissions.
