The Brexit ‘debate’ is now a war to save the establishment from the electorate

-

WE HEAR that May is telling the ‘cabinet’ that they must ‘compromise’ – again, the word that has been abused to cover the slicing to death of any real Brexit. It must make a ‘broad and generous offer’ to . . . Labour. This is the kind of offer a procuress might make of her daughter to the highest bidder: this is sacrificing national sovereign democracy to benefit themselves, their jobs, their hope of party regeneration and thus an extension of tenure. As soon as the Withdrawal Agreement Bill is passed, the EU’s Joint Committee will move in and dictate UK trade policy – no doubt covered up to prevent the public, voters and taxpayers really knowing the ghastly truth about being a trade colony.

Martin Kettle in the Guardian likens the British political situation to that in 1930s Weimar Germany. He is correct but for the wrong reasons. His own Left wing are directing political violence against Nigel Farage, and there is nothing from party leaders condemning what is now the routine remainer aggression directed at the Brexit Party. This confirms how they are only out for their parties and care nothing for national democratic standards. Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dems and the Left are happy for the Brownshirts of radical Remain to intimidate and insult Farage. The establishment is joining in: Gordon Brown, who reneged on Labour’s promise of a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty thus keeping the lid on the pressure cooker of real protest against growing EU rule, who dubbed Mrs Duffy a bigot when she dared complain at the scale of cultural and demographic change in her locality, this failed Labour leader has attacked the Brexit Party and triggered the Blairite Election Commission into a witch-hunt raid on its premises.

The two parties are so utterly desperate that they resort to the foulest means. Maybe the Mafia could be recruited as another attack dog? The Brexit ‘debate’ is now a war to save the establishment political parties from the electorate. This is indeed a coalition against the people by the entitlement oligarch caste, hard and centre Left, the patricians over the plebs.

This visceral cultural battle is of course bigger than Brexit: it is about the people wanting to retain national sovereignty, the sine qua non of democracy. Against them are the techno managers who desperately want to keep their oligarchical power, as was seen so clearly in the Verhofstadt documentary, Brexit Behind Closed Doors. Establishment Labour, Conservatives and Lib Dems have drunk so deep at the well of EU centralist managerialism that they have come to regard genuine democratic accountability as a charade to be kept up as a mask for Parliamentary government, and are basically bureaucrats little different from civil servants, people of expediency, Realpolitik and radical entitlement. These are ‘anywheres’ against the ‘somewheres’, these are people of no tradition, identity or loyalty, purely functionaries. They are against the people of communities, with histories and identities and often industries associated with their regions, such as the fishing communities so easily sacrificed by Heath, then Major, Brown and the Blairite ‘Conservatives’ of Cameron/May and the next Remainer in disguise to succeed her. This drastic change in our politics was planned and foreseen by Heath and the Civil Service, as revealed by the notorious 1971 civil service document FCO 30/1048, and we are now seeing the crunch when the people have woken up to the great deception imposed on them by ‘them’, Sir Humphrey, Lord Heseltine, Sir Oliver Letwin, Lord Howe and the oligarchy of London clubs including the Lords. It is too late for them, the Remainer bureaucrats hope, to wrest back democratic governance. The charade must continue for the good of their oligarchical caste.

This is the cultural war now happening. Hence the Remainers’ use of coarse and vituperative language, the branding of Brexit voters as ‘extremists’, ‘nationalists’, a ‘virus’ – even as they still manage to get the press to call them ‘moderates’ in their ongoing rejection of a democratic vote.

Monday’s ‘one nation’ conservatism PR pitch of Amber Rudd and her allies was but another piece of theatre. One nation conservatism was not supposed to mean the plebs being ignored by the patricians, taken for fools in the interests of the entitled bureaucracy. One nation Tories used to respect the less well-off and felt a duty towards them, to respect local custom and heritage. This Tory Remainer alliance wants to continue the flow of democratic sovereignty away from people, Parliament and tradition to the centralising command and control centre in Brussels, integrating UK governance into the federal Europe lined up in the Lisbon Treaty for 2025. The Ruddites are not ‘one nation’ so much as ‘one EU’ under one bureaucracy with increasing harmonisation and decreasing democratic accountability, controlled from Berlin and Paris.

Far from being conservative, moderate of supporters of one nation, they are deceivers. They saw the Referendum result as a kind of natural disaster to be survived, a swamp to be drained. If they succeed by their chicanery in getting another referendum and win, don’t expect to hear any more talk of a divided nation needing another vote, or of a ‘wafer-thin’ majority, or of ‘advisory’ status. It will be acclaimed as the ‘will of the people’.

We are perilously en route to an East German redefinition of democracy where ‘the people’, ‘equality’, ‘voting’, even political parties were part of a charade hiding the bureaucrats: power and eradicating of freedom of thought and expression. That, I fear, is what Remainer ‘moderates’ want. Not what the people voted for.
