ON Monday, the Today programme decided to wheel out the ‘creepy porn lawyer’ Michael Avenatti to give us his opinion on the Mueller investigation in Washington.

Considering Avenatti’s rather dodgy involvement in digging up totally fanciful allegations against Justice Kavanaugh, this is like asking Bill Clinton for his views on the #MeToo movement. Let’s just say they are both a tad compromised when it comes to credibility.

I am guessing the BBC was banking on the average Today listener thinking Avenatti is just your regular lawyer with his ear to the ground, just here to explain the legal implications of the Mueller investigation which so far has been so disappointing to the Democrats.

Nothing could be further from the truth: Avenatti is an avowed Trump-hater and was once considering a run for the Democrat nomination. The creepy porn lawyer on the Democrat ticket for President really would sum the party up nicely.

The interview starts at 2:35.

Avenatti does not believe Michael Cohen will come up with the goods and give damning evidence against Trump this week. Oh, the irony of Avenatti calling out Michael Cohen for his lack of honesty. It really does take the biscuit. Whoever at Today thought this was a good idea should be put in the broom cupboard to think about what they have done.

Avenatti was not confident that the Mueller investigation will deliver a bombshell against Trump. Presenter Justin Webb seemed a little disappointed about this.

The discussion turned to the 2020 Presidential election. Avenatti was concerned that the Democrats had a lot of talent but did not have a fighter to take on Trump. You can say a lot of things about Trump, but he is a fighter, according to Avenatti – the grudging respect seeping through. He continued that ‘it will take someone to crawl down in the gutter’ with Trump to beat him in 2020. It is certainly true that if the Democrats want to get someone from the gutter to scrap with Trump, they could do worse than the creepy porn lawyer Michael Avenatti. That certainly would get messy.
