THE chattering classes have been very busy flying the Ukrainian flag in their social media bios but are suspiciously quiet about the horrifying human rights abuses taking place in China.
Three weeks ago, on March 28, the Chinese Community Party (CCP) put the city of Shanghai into lockdown on the basis of just 425 mild cold cases. None of the 26million inhabitants are allowed to leave their homes. The military patrols the streets and have sealed apartments with metal locks, turning homes into prisons and depriving residents of fresh air, food, medical supplies and human contact.
Over the past two weeks, Shanghai residents have had no access to food or medicine, and have been banned from taking care of elderly relatives living alone. The CCP has haphazardly distributed food to some homes while others have received nothing, proving that relying on elitist, big government for survival isn’t always such a good idea.
Some food is being left to rot in landfills as truckers are barred from driving through the streets of Shanghai to deliver their goods, surely a policy of forced starvation by the CCP. Food and water supplies are diminishing rapidly.
Every night the inhabitants of Shanghai howl from their apartments, protesting against their starvation, only to be told to ‘endure’ by the authorities: presumably to the point of death. Not only are they starving but they are also forced to take discredited, unreliable Covid-19 tests. If they refuse, they are arrested and threatened with prison. Should they test positive, they are thrown into hastily constructed quarantine camps, consisting of crowded, unsanitary cells with no water, and single toilets being shared by hundreds of people. These filthy camps, and the illogical quarantine rules, show the only reason for this brutal and inhumane lockdown is the total obliteration of human rights and freedom.
The elderly have suffered from being sealed in their apartments or from being forced into squalid hospitals, where they are dying from either neglect or from catching Covid-19 in such unsanitary conditions.
Surely the cruellest part of this lockdown is that children are forcibly removed from their parents if they test positive for Covid-19. Some parents have been separated from babies as young as three months old, with healthy children being put into care homes and hospitals, where they are neglected and fall sick. This is eugenics by another name. Not even beloved cats and dogs are safe from the menaces of the CCP. Health authorities have been ordered to slaughter pets belonging to anyone testing positive for Covid-19.
Shanghai is the manufacturing hub of China. Given how much the West imports from China, this lockdown will disrupt the global economy for years. China’s rulers are pressing the self-destruct button on their own country, refusing to back down from a punitive, anti-science, extremist ‘Zero Covid’ strategy, despite their own people starving and dying as consequence. President Xi Jinping has instructed cities to sacrifice for ‘the greater good’, a phrase used by communists and fascists everywhere in a pathetic attempt to excuse their barbarism.
Xi has tightened his grip on Shanghai, the freest, most cosmopolitan place in China, as it’s the city most likely to revolt against his seizing yet another term as ruler later this year. Thanks to its cruel Covid-19 policies and its economic overreach, the CCP’s reign is faltering, and like all threatened regimes, it seeks to beat down its citizens into blind obedience.
The merciless horror that is Shanghai should discredit the notion of lockdown for ever. Yet not a word of criticism has been uttered by Western governments against China’s latest barbarism. The Biden administration refuses to condemn this dystopian nightmare, perhaps an indication that it seeks to emulate this. Covid zealot Dr Anthony Fauci threatened the US with further lockdowns a month ago.
Fresh from strutting around Kyiv like a preening peacock, supporting Ukraine’s right to freedom, Prime Minister Boris Johnson didn’t apply the same idealism to Britain on his return. Interviewed on GB News, in typical dictator fashion Johnson threatened the British people with another lockdown. He also had the audacity to claim that lockdowns saved lives whereas the opposite is true.
It’s unfathomable how anyone could still think lockdowns are a viable policy. There is no scientific proof that lockdowns work in controlling disease but a profusion of evidence exists to show that this Chinese export has caused unspeakable devastation to societies and economies. Millions more will perish from starvation and medical neglect as a consequence of authoritarian lockdowns than from Covid-19. Countries with the harshest lockdowns have the highest number of Covid-19 deaths and cases, and now have a medical crisis in the form of lockdown induced obesity, missed cancer treatments and worsening mental health.
China is a country that views the sanctity of human life with disdain. It persecutes Muslims, Jews and Christians, brutally colonises Africa and terrorises its neighbours. Yet, on the say-so of this heinous regime, Western governments in lockstep ripped up civil liberties to implement authoritarian, destructive lockdowns.
The silence of Western governments over the horror unfolding in Shanghai is chilling and telling. During the past two years we have seen politicians drunk on power and puffed up with ridiculous self-importance, buoyed up by terrorising their populaces into obedience, and competing with each other to win ‘lockdown zealot of the month’. How chilling that they continue to seek to copy the ruthless, inhumane policies of the CCP. Britons should brace themselves for further lockdowns.
