THE BBC has announced that Qasa Alom, a broadcaster with a passion for climate change, sustainability and current affairs, will be the most prominent new face of the BBC’s Wimbledon coverage next month when Clare Balding takes over from Sue Barker as the main presenter.
Qasa hosted events for the UN at COP26 and COP27. He recently moderated a panel at the Global Sport Positive Summit in London. The organisation ‘supports the global sports community to increase their ambition and action on climate change’. He is a strong advocate for Covid-19 vaccinations.
TCW Defending Freedom has gained access to the interviews to be held with the finalists at this year’s Wimbledon.
Qasa: Coco Gauff, congratulations on your hard-fought victory over Aryna Sabalenka. In 1989, it was predicted that very soon London will be inundated as a result of rising sea levels caused by global warming. Do you think that this will give Americans such as yourself an unfair advantage over players like Aryna who come from countries with no coastline and are not used to playing near seawater?
Coco Gauff: Not really.
Qasa: Given the amount of carbon dioxide your journey from the US to England has released into the atmosphere and the resulting devastation it has caused, wouldn’t it be better for the environment if future Wimbledon tournaments were played as video games?
Coco Gauff: Not really.
Qasa: Aryna Sabalenka, as a Belarusian, why did it take you so long to criticise your President for his support of Putin’s invasion of Europe?
Aryna Sabalenka: I am just tennis player.
Qasa: When should Ukraine should mount an offensive in the Crimea?
Aryna Sabalenka: I am just tennis player.
Qasa: Novak Djokovic, is it fair that a player who has not been vaccinated should be allowed to compete against those who have done the right thing and accepted the safe and effective jab?
Novak Djokovic: I have made my position clear.
Qasa: When you wrote on a camera lens at the French Open, ‘Serbia is the heart of Kosovo’, were you not aware of the Nato and BBC stance on this dispute?
Novak Djokovic: I stand by my decision.
Qasa: CarlosAlcaraz, commiserations on your straight-sets defeat to the shameless Serbian anti-vaxxer today, but the question I’ve been meaning to ask you is this. If it is true that the rain in Spain falls mostly on the plain how does the lack of water affect coastal communities?’
Carlos Alcaraz: Qué?
Qasa: Like the other Mediterranean countries, Spain will soon become an arid desert. Do you look forward to the prospect of sandy courts and interruptions by vagrant camels?
Carlos Alcaraz: Qué?
