WITH the new Brexit Party surging in popularity and now dramatically polling in first place for European elections, you might think that the ruling class would use this week’s Easter break from the Brexit fiasco to remind us of why we shouldn’t write them off.
So wrote Sherelle Jacobs, the Telegraph’s brilliant assistant comment editor, yesterday. She talks about the emotional chasm between the people and the Westminster elite, from Sajid Javid ‘who seems to think violence is a “disease” to be cured, rather than a wrong to be punished’ to Jeremy Hunt rehearsing ‘lines about Shamima Begum’s “legal rights” and entitlement to have “access to the resources of the state”, while studiously avoiding our eye.’
As ever, Jacobs is spot on about this real political disease afflicting our society. It is one that has Tory politicians also studiously avoiding eye contact with the public when it comes to their toleration of a leader who is not just past her sell-by date but now an impediment to any progress that can be made over Brexit and an actual liability to the health and prosperity of the nation.
We at TCW have been counting the days it will take them to recognise that they cannot keep shifting the responsibility for removing her to others and to have the maturity for once to act in concert – and topple her.
Today is Day 15 . . .
