THOUSANDS of couples will have to postpone or cancel their weddings because an expected relaxation of the lockdown rules will not happen, it was revealed today.
It had been thought that ceremonies with 15 guests would be allowed in all licensed venues, such as hotels and stately homes, between April 12 and May 17.
But the UK Weddings Taskforce – representing wedding businesses – says it has learned that weddings and receptions will be permitted from April 12 only in places of worship, public buildings and outdoor settings that are already allowed to open. And this does not include the majority of the UK’s licensed wedding venues, where 71 per cent of marriages typically take place.
The Taskforce estimates that 7,000 weddings are affected, leaving couples ‘stunned and disappointed’. You can find full details here.
