Thursday’s reading list: Dreamers, the Hollywood pay gap and PC tyranny silences the truth

-

This week we start with the never-ending debate on immigration reform in the United States. Trump wants a deal on the Dreamers – children who were illegally brought to the US by their parents, and have been living and working or studying there ever since.

The Democrats want citizenship for all, a kind of amnesty, which I believe is a step too far. But it is a difficult moral question as to what a country should do with people brought here illegally through no fault of their own while also respecting the rule of law and having a compassion society.

However, it is also important that we do not permit the Left to exploit Christian charity, to destroy the country with mass, uncontrolled immigration and amnesty. This piece from Crisis magazine considers the issues.

The Federalist then discusses the issues raised in the Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams pay dispute. This has since been resolved by Wahlberg’s inevitable donation of his $1.5million fee to a feminist fighting fund. This explores some important ideas when it comes to pay and letting employers take advantage of you.

Finally, City Journal covers the now very well discussed comments by President Trump that some countries are sh*tholes.

Andrew Klavan opens with two brilliant paragraphs that should be printed out and stuck to the fridge of every conservative. He explains:

Nothing scandalizes a leftist like the truth. Point out that women and men are different, that black Americans commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime, that most terrorist acts are committed by Muslims, and the Left leaps to its collective feet in openmouthed shock, like Margaret Dumont after a Groucho Marx wisecrack. This is racism! This is sexism! This is some sort of phobia! I’m shocked, shocked to find facts being spoken in polite company!

No one is really shocked, of course. This is simply a form of bullying. The Left has co-opted our good manners and our good will in order to silence our opposition to their bad policies. The idea is to make it seem impolite and immoral to mention the obvious.

This is what the Left do, and it is very, very effective especially against (cheese-eating conservative surrender monkeys) people who want to be liked.

Remember this every time you watch them go at it on Question Time.
