Today’s hot topic: Physician, pay for thyself


PROFESSOR Andrew Goddard, President of the Royal College of Physicians, says the NHS is in crisis because a quarter of trainee doctors leave before becoming a consultant, and more and more doctors wish to work part-time.

It is estimated that it costs about £230,000 to train a doctor, including student loans. 

Should young doctors be required to spend a certain length of time working in the NHS as a condition of their acceptance for training? Discuss!
