Today’s hot topic: What about our own homeless?

-

AS the UK continues to clamour for the award of virtue signalling, ahem, sorry, global goodwill capital of the world, it has now decided to offer £350 to any household that brings in a Ukrainian refugee.

Notwithstanding our own problems at the border or the fact that this will incentivise another huge migrant shift across the continent, I wonder why it is that when economic migrants and refugees decide to move, they always come here?

One thing for sure is that this – like Rishi’s Covid measures which the Treasury ran so abysmally – will be open to massive scams and abuse.

No doubt the scheme will perk up the biggest virtue signallers amongst us – yes, Lineker, I’m talking about people like you – which leads me to another point. Homelessness in this country has been growing year upon year and yet when something tragic happens across our borders, our government, media and slebs are quick to offer cash and/or space to anyone fleeing their environment, whether it’s from destitution or war. Why are they always so quiet about the many thousands of people on our own streets? Where are the government incentives offering cash to provide shelter for our homeless?

Maybe it’s because homelessness doesn’t attract the same attention as a global event and virtue signalling on domestic issues, no matter how tragic, won’t provide our supposedly altruistic camera hoggers with the kind of recognition their moral rectitude on Ukraine might.
