Today’s talking point: Bring back school dinners

A SURVEY has found that only one in 60 packed lunches taken to school would be considered healthy. Only one in five included a vegetable and only half had a portion of fruit.

There were, however, plenty of jam sandwiches made with white bread, sausage rolls and chocolate treats.

There are mandatory rules on nutritional standards for lunches served by schools, but these do not cover packed lunches. Is it time to return to compulsory school meals?
