IT has taken a long time but at last a Tory MP has pointed out that the best way to fill the £50billion black hole of debt is to cancel HS2.
Former cabinet minister Esther McVey said she would not support an increase in taxes unless the ‘unnecessary vanity project’ is axed.
The latest official cost estimate is £53billion-£71billion at 2019 prices.
