AS discussed elsewhere on these pages today, a think tank has demanded an inquiry into the role Boris Johnson’s fiancée Carrie Symonds, who used to be the Conservative Party’s head of communications, is playing in Government.
Concerns rose to the boil following the appointment of two of her allies, Baroness Finn and Henry Newman, as key Downing Street advisers.
It had been reported that Mr Johnson’s former right-hand man Dominic Cummings left in November after clashing with her. On Friday Oliver Lewis, a Cummings ally, resigned as head of the Union Unit after only two weeks in the job.
Number Ten has dismissed the claims. But it is not the first time that Miss Symonds has been accused of calling the shots. She is said to be behind the Prime Minister’s unexpected and enthusiastic adoption of a revolutionary green agenda and to have influenced his views on LBGT policy.
Today in TCW the Bow Group’s deputy director of communications defends their call for an inquiry and rebuts the accusation that it is rooted in sexism.
Should MPs back the call for an inquiry or is it a storm in a teacup?
