NO sooner has the ‘roadmap’ for the lifting of coronavirus restrictions been published than a new ‘mutation’ pops up, this time from Brazil.
At once the media fall on it like manna from heaven, speculating on the basis of precisely no information that it could be more transmissible, more infectious or more serious than all the other variants which have been identified. For extra excitement, the hunt is on for a missing carrier. Here for example is the Telegraph’s running update.
This is how the variant scare in December was covered. It was predicted to be 70 per cent more transmissible. This has never been established.
The Telegraph is only one example of the doom-mongering mainstream media. Are they not very bright? Are they gullible? Do they abandon any scepticism at the whiff of a headline? Or, with their balance sheets boosted by massive Government expenditure on Covid-19 advertising, are they simply purveyors of propaganda?
Feel free to discuss this or anything else on your mind.
