AS if the Magic Money Tree had not been shaken bare already, a group of Tory dreamers has come up with another new wheeze for dispensing its non-existent bounty.
Instead of doing something useful, such as attacking their Government’s economically catastrophic lockdown policy, the 100 or so members of the One Nation Caucus have decided to try to appease those most damaged by it – the young.
Everyone aged 18 to 24 should receive a £500 ‘Covid relief’ lump sum, they say. They want Boris Johnson to offer the payment in recognition that this the age group is the ‘worst affected by the pandemic’.
Well, these young folk may be the hardest hit economically – but not by the pandemic. Instead, they have been devastated by lockdown and the policies these same MPs rubber-stamped.
It’s an insult!
If the caucus clowns think £500 handouts can make up for a future stolen, an economy destroyed, 800,000 jobs already gone, liberty lost, and a taxation burden for decades to come, I just wonder where there they have been this last year – not, it’s for certain, in the real world of the people they are meant to represent. A world in which an immediate PCR test, increasingly necessary for work, travel and play, is all yours for the competitive sum of £79. So not much change from £500 after five tests, is there?
Please feel free to discuss this or anything else on your mind.
