FACEBOOK’s ‘Oversight Board’ – funded by the social media giant – has upheld its ban on President Trump which was imposed after the Capitol riots in January.
The board’s stated purpose is to rule on issues that are too big for Facebook, but in this case the five unnamed members have refused to make a final decision and have told the company that they must decide whether or not to make the ban permanent within six months.
In its 11,000-word ruling, the board said that Trump had ‘created an environment where a serious risk of violence was possible’ by constantly claiming he was the victim of election fraud, which the board said was an ‘an unfounded narrative’.
