Today’s talking point: Do town-hall fat cats deserve the cream?


ALMOST 3,000 local authority staff were paid more than £100,000 during the pandemic in 1920/21, according to figures released by the Taxpayers’ Alliance today.

Talk about money for old rope. This at a time of lockdown when swimming pools were closed, libraries placed out of bounds and countless local services shut down.

With families facing a cost-of-living crisis, the campaign group is calling on local authorities to stop council tax rises and cut wasteful spending. Should that start with these inflated salaries? Discuss.
