WHENEVER the Tories have collapsed in the polls, like now, up steps Nigel Farage to set up a safe alternative party to hoover up the discontented Conservative voters.
This is what happened in 2019. Farage set up the Brexit Party that went on to win the EU Elections and the Tories came a dismal fifth, with just 9 per cent of the vote.
Just five months later Boris Johnson won an 80-seat majority, the biggest since Maggie in 1987. How come? Farage withdrew his candidates in every Tory-held seat.
In light of the above, how about this for a scenario?
Farage takes over the leadership of Reform.
Adopts as a main policy ‘Stop the Invasion’.
Support for Reform surges to 25 per cent-plus in the polls.
Reform makes big gains in next May’s council elections; Conservatives are wiped out.
Sunak is ousted by Tory MPs, worried they will be wiped out in the General Election in 2024.
Johnson returns as PM as the only proven election winner the Tories have.
He calls a General Election in 2024.
Makes the main Conservative policy ‘Stop the Invasion’.
Reform puts up candidates in every mainland seat.
Just before nominations close, Farage withdraws all the Reform candidates in Tory seats.
Justifies it by saying if he doesn’t do that, it could let Labour in and they wouldn’t ‘Stop the Invasion’.
Johnson wins the election with a good majority.
The invasion is not stopped.
It is written in the stars!
