THE warden of a university hall of residence has been relieved of his post for using too many question marks in texts.
An employment tribunal in Leicester was told that Dr Binoy Sobnack’s multiple question marks created an ‘intimidating tone’. A sample was ‘Why don’t you listen?????? Stick to what has been decided!’
Dr Sobnack, who retains his position as a physics lecturer at Loughborough University, won his claim for unfair dismissal as warden and was awarded £15,000, but the tribunal judge said that his punctuation was ‘unnecessarily aggressive’.
Is this reasonable or ridiculous?
