Total garbage – Labour’s clean energy manifesto

LABOUR’S great plan to ‘Make Britain a clean energy superpower’, part of the party’s general election manifesto, is 22 pages of complete and utter nonsense which will lead to regular electricity blackouts, bankrupt what little is left of British industry and impoverish us all. You can read it here.

It ends as follows: ‘Achieving this mission is central to Labour’s vision of a better Britain. One in which we have grasped the vast opportunities in the industries of the future – cutting bills, creating good jobs and delivering security – as we lead the world in tackling the climate crisis.

There is so much total garbage in Labour’s plan that life is too short to go through it all. Let me instead present a simple, illustrated, seven-step explanation for our useless, scientifically-challenged, Greta-worshipping politicians showing how our rulers’ economically suicidal Net Zero will ruin us all:

Step 1 In its quest to become the leading ‘clean energy superpower’, the UK has cut CO2 emissions more and faster than any other country:

Step 2 The UK has achieved this by moving away from cheap reliable fossil fuels to expensive and unreliable ‘renewables’ including wind and solar. Wholesale electricity prices are currently around £65 per megawatt (MW) – about half from fossil fuels and the rest from renewables including wind, solar, hydro and nuclear. But we are paying £102/MW for fixed offshore wind, offering £246/MW to operators for floating offshore wind, £89/MW for onshore wind, and £85/MW for solar.

This idiocy has given the UK some of the world’s highest energy prices (October 2023 prices):

UK electricity costs more than most of our European competitors, is twice as expensive as in the US and is more than three times the cost in China and India.

Step 3 UK manufacturing is collapsing due to such high energy prices:

Step 4 The decline in UK manufacturing has resulted in massive job losses:

The job cuts at the Port Talbot steel works and the Grangemouth oil refinery are just two recent examples of our idiotic economic Seppuku.

Step 5 While the world economy keeps growing, Britain is becoming almost irrelevant. The UK share of global GDP is collapsing:

Step 6 The UK hasn’t actually reduced its CO2 emissions, it has merely exported them to countries such as India and China:

Step 7 Finally, as I explain in my recent book There Is No Climate Crisis, there is (of course) no climate crisis:

So why on earth are we ruining our lives to fight something which isn’t happening anyway?
