SOME readers will have noticed a small change to TCW’s home page recently. If you check down the right-hand column, you’ll see that, apart from improving the look, we’ve improved your options for donating to us.
As you know, we run a tight ship here, with minimal costs compared to other ‘funded’ sites and rely on what we can make from advertising and your generosity to keep our operation going. *
We were aware that the chief donation route we offered by PayPal was not always a natural choice for many of you. Now, I’m pleased to say, we have found another system which gives all options – PayPal, online bank transfer and credit card.
We can see from the response already that having this choice is appreciated. And I want to give my warmest thanks to those who’ve donated with such generosity over the last week.
Unfortunately, data protection rules mean you will not all get a personal reply of thanks from us, but you will receive a receipt and a formal thank-you acknowledgement.
I can’t reiterate enough how vital your help now is in ensuring TCW’s mission goes forward. These are parlous, even frightening, times, made more so by the Government’s inept response to the coronavirus crisis.
So much is at stake – our fundamental values of freedom of speech, freedom of enterprise, our independence from the ever more controlling and invasive State (socially as well as economically). It’s not alarmist to say the very fabric of our democracy is in jeopardy.
Most worryingly, young people’s prospects are now a far cry from the world of possibilities and freedoms that was open for my generation.
At TCW we are striving constantly to call the Government and the political parties to account. We refuse to be bamboozled by our new ‘Big Brothers’ and state the truth as we see it.
We will not ‘go with the flow’, or settle for the ‘new normal’, as the ever more disappointing and docile mainstream media appears to have done. We will tell it how it is, and aim to shame the ‘I’m all right, Jack’ Establishment out of their mute and uncritical compliance.
Quietly accepting the emergence of a blinkered, autocratic and all-invasive state is not what my parents’ generation fought the Second World War for.
Nor did they make their sacrifices for the set of immature, narcissistic politicians in charge of our national life today. Most are at best timid, at worst hubristic – incapable of taking responsibility for their own affairs, let alone those of others.
Some will say that our previous hyper-individualist generation paved the way for this mess. Maybe so. But even if we deserve no more for allowing it to come about, surely our children and grandchildren deserve better?
One thing you can be sure of. As long as we – men and women – of The Conservative Woman can do so, we will continue to fight for liberty, truth and sanity in today’s Britain and to give the young a free, civilised and responsible future.
* Your generosity does not pay for a salaried staff – TCW’s editorial content is freely contributed by our many talented writers. However, donations help cover essential operational costs and minimal remunerations for our tiny, dedicated, professional and incredibly hardworking seven-days-a-week team.
