AT A Senate committee hearing on January 11, President Biden’s Justice Department announced that they are creating a unit to fight ‘domestic terrorism’. The head of the department’s National Security Division, Matthew Olsen, said: ‘This group of dedicated attorneys will focus on the domestic terrorism threat, helping ensure these cases are handled properly and effectively co-ordinated across the Department of Justice and across the country.’ Olsen went on to say that the number of domestic terrorism cases which the FBI is investigating has more than doubled since March 2020.
Neither Olsen nor FBI official Jill Sanborn, who also spoke at the hearing, could cite examples of these domestic terrorism cases.
However, the two incidents that Democrat politicians and the mainstream media point to most when sounding the alarm about domestic terrorism are the Capitol Hill ‘riot’ a year ago and the now infamous Loudoun County school board meeting in Virginia.
On June 22, 2021, a father named Scott Smith attended this meeting to voice his concern about transgender bathroom policies in the schools. According to Mr Smith (and the police), his teenage daughter was raped and sodomised in a Virginia school girls’ bathroom by a boy who was wearing a skirt. At the meeting, the superintendent of Loudoun schools, Scott Ziegler, denied that there had been any reports of sexual assaults in the school district’s restrooms. Tensions escalated, and Mr Smith was tackled and arrested by police officers who were at the meeting. This incident led to the National School Boards Association writing a letter to President Biden asking him to employ domestic terrorism laws to target parents of school pupils who are, among other things, against the teaching of Critical Race Theory in schools and who are opposing mask mandates for children. The letter stated: ‘As these acts of malice, violence, and threats against public school officials have increased, the classification of these heinous actions could be the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes.’ The letter references this incident with Scott Smith (who has no criminal record), and is the NSBA’s primary example of ‘violence’ against public school officials.
Then there is the Capitol Hill riot of January 6, 2021. Or as the Left-wing media refers to it, ‘the Insurrection.’ This event was nothing more than a protest which got out of hand. But if one were to listen to Vice President Kamala Harris’s description of the day, which she likens to Pearl Harbor and 9/11, one would conclude that thousands had died at the Capitol on January 6. The truth is only one person died that day – a white Trump supporter named Ashli Babbitt who was shot by a black Capitol police officer named Michael Byrd. What is more, according to the FBI, zero firearms were found on any of the hundreds of protesters. To this day, none of the 725 rioters who have been arrested has been charged with ‘insurrection’ by Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ). Which leads to the question: how can you have an insurrection without insurrectionists?
What is never mentioned by Left-wing politicians and the mainstream media when discussing ‘domestic terrorism’ is the 120 days of looting and burning and attacking of businesses and police precincts and courthouses by Black Lives Matters protesters and Antifa thugs during the summer of 2020. Indeed, Kamala Harris even tried to portray them as victims by promoting a bail fund for those arrested. In June of 2020, she tweeted: ‘If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota.’ Unlike the Loudoun County School Board meeting and the Capitol protest, these events left 30 dead (and 2,000 injured policemen) and caused more than $2billion in property damage.
Biden’s DOJ would have a much better case for creating this domestic terrorism unit if they cited the 2020 riots. But the department won’t, because that wouldn’t be woke. The 2020 rioters were protesting about the death of black career criminal George Floyd, the epitome of woke; Scott Smith was pushing back on transgender bathrooms and the Capitol Hill ‘insurrectionists’ were protesting about the 2020 election results, both issues being the antithesis of woke. As a result, Scott Smith and the Capitol Hill protesters have targets put on their backs by Biden’s DOJ, and voila, the woke are now weaponised.
