WE don’t do much showing off or patting our own backs at TCW, but at the start of this new year I cannot resist a bit of bragging!
It’s about our astonishing readership jump. National newspaper circulation in the UK has been declining for years and fell below one million copies in 2021 even among leading brands such as the Daily Mail. The BBC has also seen a drastic decline in reach.
By contrast ours is booming. Our 2021 readership stats by page views totalled 13,651,515. This is a huge increase on the 2020 figure of 9,089,543, in fact 51 per cent. It’s provided a wonderfully positive start to the new year for us. This is despite the setback to our traffic caused by Google Ads deplatforming us and leaving us without much needed advertising revenue. Thankfully we were sought out by another advertising company and we have begun to restore our revenue streams.
I think this growth reflects our determination to remain sceptical, never to be bullied into groupthink or gulled into thinking the government is behaving in either a rational or democratic way, whatever those cunning opinion polls suggest. We encourage free and open debate while maintaining disciplined editorial and journalistic standards. We also have benefited enormously from being able to publish a number of experienced and top-quality journalists for whom the mainstream media no longer provides a home.
The more readers we attract the more we can continue with this ‘reverse takeover’ of the mainstream press, and offer an independent news agenda that challenges the global establishment’s top down narrative and criminal authoritarianism.
In order to do that we need your help. First and foremost, if you have not already done so, we need you to sign up here to ourTCW daily news email. We will never pass your email address on.
Then please encourage any sympathetic and indeed concerned friends to do the same – and spread the word that in this era of mass media censorship and conformity there is a website that offers an alternative to it. Tell them that in TCW they will find a beacon of free speech and a cast of contributors who are not afraid to call out the lies and who have not lost their moral compasses.
Finally we continue to appeal to you for your donations – either one-off or regular monthly amounts – to keep us going. We are hugely grateful for readers’ generosity and thank all of you who have contributed this last year. We run on a largely voluntary basis but there are necessary operational costs, and some editorial ones, though we keep these very low by comparison with other sites.
We maintain the principle that comment is free but professional journalism and investigation costs money. Developing this aspect of our output does depend on more reader support. So please, if you are still subscribing to any of the mainstream outlets, do consider sending that money our way instead via our ‘donate box’ on the right side of the home page and set us off on our best-ever year.
