Why can’t Melanie Phillips join the Covid dots?

WHEN the British media has wanted someone with a firm outlook on moral matters, and a strong line against anti-Semitism, they’ve always turned to Melanie Phillips. Rightly so. She has always excoriated Jew-haters and has a shrewd and thoughtful insight into Leftist anti-Semitism from a centre Right perspective.

Phillips is also one of the best defenders, and advocate, of Judeo-Christian values and their fundamental contribution to Western civilisation. But like so many other MSM writers, she appears to have developed a blind spot when it comes to Covid-19 policy responses implemented by Western governments. Inexplicably, despite all the evidence, she fails to see that the most immediate threat to the Western heritage of justice and free speech has been the implementation of lockdowns and mandatory experimental vaccines; the ‘cheering on’ of this obliteration of our precious civil liberties in the name of a virus.

In a recent podcast (August 3) with Allen Roth, president of Secure America Now, a non-partisan organisation centred on protecting the US from foreign threats, Phillips makes some excellent points. Noting that the West is under assault from within, she explains how the West was created on Christian values, underpinned by the Jewish moral code. It is that moral code that retrogressives seek to destroy by educating children into believing that the Western culture they are inheriting is evil.

Phillips is correct in that Western leadership has proved too weak to stand up to these forces in that Islamism forms part of this assault on the West. As she rightly observes, the British elite – politicians, judiciary, police – won’t confront it because they are too scared of a backlash. Instead, they align with Islamists, collectively demonising Israel, spuriously accusing it of being a white colonial power.

Israel’s alliance with the US serves to further inflame their hatred of the Jewish state. As Phillips explains, those who want to destroy the West want to destroy Israel too. What she neglects to mention in this thesis is that the assault on the West, and Israel, is also being driven by a new global medical tyranny imposed by the corrupt United Nations (UN) and the despots who dominate it. She seems to forget that this bloated, Chinese-aligned behemoth is one of the main forces behind the push for lockdowns that have been inflicted across the globe with such economically destructive consequences in the last 18 months. Together with its offshoot the World Health Organisation (WHO), the UN has instigated mass experimental vaccination, followed by vaccine passports, as the purported but mendacious route to ‘freedom’.

Given from where and whom these dictates emanate, I find it astonishing that Phillips, and other Jewish conservative writers, are not more sceptical or alarmed.

Phillips rightly accuses Western and Jewish leadership of weakness, too frightened to protest in case they are accused of racism or Islamophobia; the Jewish leadership in the UK too fearful of being accused of Islamophobia and thus failing to protest against the demonisation and lies about Israel, or to point out the virulent anti-Semitism of the Palestinian Authority. She points out the big mistake made in equating anti-Semitism with Islamophobia.

So yes, she is right about the West’s capitulation to this unholy alliance between the Left and Islamism, a fundamentalist threat that hasn’t disappeared in Britain just because of Covid-19. In fact the country is even more vulnerable given Boris Johnson’s heinous actions in weakening our economy and undermining democracy. History tells us that whenever there is major social and economic destruction, as is happening now, anti-Semitism rises exponentially.

Phillips says Jeremy Corbyn is a traitor to the country. But so too surely is Johnson. His actions speak louder than his words when it comes to Israel. In the year his regime has inflicted unprecedented economic damage on the country, it’s surely no coincidence it is also the year in which there has been an unprecedented rise in anti-Semitism.

The Tories’ transformation to authoritarian Labour-lite greenies, cheered on by a bunch of anti-Semitic SJWs who masquerade as a political party called Labour, cannot go unnoticed.

Conservatives in the past abhorred big government and its control of the minutiae of our lives. Under the cover of Covid-19 and ‘safetyism’, Johnson’s Junta has instructed just that – an unprecedented interference in and control of the private domain. The family is no longer autonomous, and far from safe as an institution. Other institutions no longer work properly, the country has taken on aspects of what we can call a failed state, and people are powerless. That Sage, responsible too for this destruction of our country, is so heavily influenced by Communists and Leftists, should be as abhorrent to Phillips as it is to any true conservative.

Sage’s advocacy of draconian lockdowns and vaccine passports, gateways to Chinese Communist Party-style socialism in the UK, should ring alarm bells for anyone who believes in the ideals associated with Western democracies. But Phillips fails to connect the dots.

Wokedom has softened up Westerners into compliance and silence. ‘All must have prizes’ education has not gone away.  In fact it’s been so dumbed down that many have learnt to see obedience to authoritarianism, including lockdowns and vaccine passports, as a virtue. Why isn’t this also anathema to Phillips? While she rightly criticises the MSM for its anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias, how can she back propaganda on lockdowns and vaccines, nowhere pushed harder than in the BBC, to the point of calling anyone who protests against the destruction of civil liberties a ‘freedom fetishist’

She is by no means alone. A strange affliction affects several previously sound commentators who refuse to acknowledge that the most immediate threat to the West and Israel, to Jews and everyone else, is not Covid-19 – a potentially serious but now treatable illness – but the unprecedented authoritarianism unleashed in its name by those who no longer believe in democracy and Western values.
