Why is our cash flowing to this loathsome terror group?

-

LAST week the Department for International Development (DFID) promised to squander more taxpayers’ money on Islamist terrorists.

Not content with funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) with a projected £65.5million in 2019/20, those who run DFID earmarked an additional £19million towards this UN subsidiary.

UNRWA was created to help Palestinian refugees but has long lost sight of this objective. Now its main goal is the destruction of Israel via the enactment of Palestinian ‘right of return’. UNRWA has vastly inflated the number of Palestinian refugees, currently placing five million people into this category even though most don’t qualify for refugee status as they were born in other countries.

Given that the population of Israel is slightly over eight million, the policy of Palestinian ‘right of return’ has the potential to turn it into another Islamic state, endangering not only Jews living there but also the entire diaspora. Why is the British government funding this?

With an operational budget of almost £1billion, UNRWA is the most heavily funded refugee agency in the world. Yet it has a deficit of £350million. Where are all those millions going? The money is certainly not being given to needy Palestinians, abused as human shields by Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza, exploited by the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the West Bank and kept as pawns in the Arab war against Israel in refugee camps in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

If the UN is truly concerned about the historical plight of refugees, why hasn’t it established similar subsidiaries to help the 14million descendants of those displaced in 1947 by the partition of India and Pakistan and the almost one million Mizrahi Jews kicked out of MENA countries when Israel was created?

The suffering of these forgotten refugees, and their descendants, is ignored by the UN in favour of running an organisation which plays a large role in terror. UNRWA is not neutral or a friend of Britain. Its summer camps teach Palestinian children jihad and hatred of Jews.

UNRWA appoints Hamas representatives to serve in its schools where they are free to recruit students to Islamic Bloc, the youth wing of Hamas. Its employees have used UNRWA vehicles to transport weapons used to attack Israel.

Despite protestations to the contrary by the obtuse mandarins who run DFID, most of Britain’s aid money is stolen by the PA and Hamas leadership. The PA also siphons off British financial aid to pay the hefty salaries of terrorists held in Israeli prisons, including those who attacked British citizen Kay Wilson.

UNRWA is ideologically driven by the Islamist-dominated UN. None of this is new information and can be easily found by clicking a computer mouse. So why do the MPs and civil servants who run DFID continue to finance it, given that the organisation is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and is clearly corrupt? Do they agree with its aims? We should be told.

DFID uses the same rhetoric espoused by those who wish to destroy Israel by referring to the Palestinian Territories as ‘occupied’. A misnomer, given that the West Bank is classified as ‘disputed territory’ under international law and Gaza is ‘occupied’ by Hamas and not Israel. Why is it putting false information on its government website?

Those who run DFID often use the excuse that their budget is ring-fenced in blundering attempts to explain their incompetent and damaging decisions in spending allocation. This imbecilic policy is a hangover from David Cameron’s time as Prime Minister, blithely carried on by the dense Theresa May.

Even those who have no interest in Israel must surely be outraged by the fact that while 16,000 British war veterans are sleeping rough the government ignores their plight in favour of funding Islamists.

This travesty of a government department has long since outlived its usefulness. I have written several times on how DFID gives millions to suspect regimes and charity fat cats, and funds terrorism. It’s now more crucial than ever to disband a department whose policy of ring-fencing billions is actively harming British citizens. Mandarins who run it like their own private fiefdom must be held to account for financing Islamist terrorists and for flinging our money about like sweets at a child’s birthday party.
