THINK you’ve got it tough in the lockdown? Okay, it’s not much fun here in gloomy, rainswept Britain ten months into the Covid restrictions. But spare a thought for poor Robbie Williams.
According to reports, the 46-year-old singer is being ‘forced to self-isolate at a £106,000-a-week villa’ on the Caribbean paradise island of St Barts after testing positive for coronavirus.
Robbie’s situation reminds me of the scene in the brilliant Eddie Murphy movie Coming to America, where King Jaffe Joffer finds his son Prince Akeem living in squalor in New York and blames Akeem’s aide, Semmi. He tells Semmi: ‘You must be punished. You will confine yourself to our royal suite at the Waldorf Astoria.’
However, I’m sure we all wish Robbie a speedy recovery. And as Britain was taking a battering from Storm Christoph yesterday while the weather in St Barts was a balmy 76F, I’m sure we all wish we were there as well.
Actually, I’d settle for a trip to New Brighton right now.
