Woman’s Hour presents the porn-for-children slot

-

MOST of us have become inured to the relentless downward spiral of the BBC. But it surely plumbs new depths with its latest offering – a Tweet from Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour asking: ‘What’s the best way to inform teenagers about porn?’

With breezy insouciance, as if pornography for the young was an accepted part of everyday life, the message continues: ‘Should there be age-appropriate porn as has been suggested, so they can learn about consent and what’s respectful and what’s not? What do you think? Email us your opinions.’

An alert over the outrageous Tweet was signalled by Return to Order, a campaigning website of the American Society for the Defence of Tradition, Family and Property – and a backlash has begun.

Return to Order has launched an online petition condemning the message, demanding its withdrawal and an apology from the BBC, which can be accessed here.

The website says: ‘As Operation Underground Railroad founder Tim Ballard recently explained to The Daily Wire, sex traffickers rely upon pornographic material to ripen children for abuse: If they can get access, they will try to desensitise them by showing them sexual things.

‘The consequences of this would be devastating. Besides the destruction of innocence and the addiction to pornography, which is already a pandemic, there is also the danger that these under-age teenagers would emulate the perverse things they see.

‘Worse, teaching “age-appropriate” pornography and softening it with “consent” can very well lead to the worse sexual crimes: “Consensual” paedophilia. We must nip this danger in the bud.’

Like the TFP, we at TCW Defending Freedom think this is a dangerous game for the BBC to be playing. This ‘invitation’ needs an official retraction, a reprimand to Woman’s Hour and an apology from the corporation’s director-general, Tim Davie.

Normalising pornography in this way opens up children to online sex abuse and grooming. Besides the destruction of innocence and the addiction to pornography, there is also the danger that under-age teenagers would find it difficult to resist pressure to participate in something that had been ‘approved’.

We urge you to sign the petition.
