HomeCOVID-19You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught

You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught

-

With apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein, South Pacific

You’ve got to be taught to feel the fear,
You’ve got to believe the plague is here;
The nudge unit’s whispering into your ear:
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Each time you set foot in a shopping arcade:
If you’re to take part in the Covid parade,
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to self-isolate,
Although you’re not sick or seventy-eight,
Or granny will meet with a terrible fate:
You’ve got to be carefully taught
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to feel the fear,
To start and leap back when a human comes near:
If you’re not to land in a far tougher tier
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to sanitise
Each time that you touch your mouth or eyes;
You’ve got to believe that Chris Whitty is wise:
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to mask up before it’s too late,
Then join in the chorus of ‘Vaccinate!’
And when the jab’s offered you say you can’t wait:
You’ve got to be carefully taught
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to feel the fear,
You’ve got to be taught to sneer, and smear
The heretic scientists who don’t adhere
To what you’ve been carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
If you should encounter some renegade
Who isn’t on board with the grand maskerade:
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to shun all debates,
To do as you’re told by nice Mr Gates
And hate all the experts your government hates:
You’ve got to be carefully taught
You’ve got to be carefully taught.
